Bringing a world of music to Nebraska
French jazz violinist Scott Tixier just received his 6th GRAMMY for his contributions to Jon Batiste's American Symphony (see the documentary on Netflix). Scott returns to Lincoln to participate for a second time in a unique collaboration between Meadowlark, Lincoln Public Schools, and UNL's Glenn Korff School of Music. Scott has toured with many of today's top artists including Stevie Wonder, Adele, Pink, Jon Legend, Elton John, Christina Aguilera, Coldplay, and more and has been featured in several films including John Wick (on-screen!) and The Lion King. He was chosen to be the first visiting artist for Meadowlark's Creative Improvising String Project and gave multiple workshops for string students from UNL and eight LPS high schools in addition to presenting a free recital.
French jazz violin virtuoso Scott Tixier returns once again – this time to perform with students from the Strings Alliance In Lincoln (SAIL) camp and a professional rhythm section in collaboration with the Lincoln Public Schools and UNL's Glenn Korff School of Music. The concert is planned for the new recital hall in the brand new Glenn Korff School of Music building.
The award-winning Brazilian duo of vocalist Celeste Caramanna and pianist/composer Pablo Lapidusas will present their latest project – Looking for Johnny Alf. Johnny Alf was the stage name of Alfredo José da Silva, one the originators of Brazil's most famous genres, Bossa Nova. The program will feature a quartet of Brazilian musicians and be presented under the stars in the fabulous Prairie Pines Nature Preserve.
Saxophonist Greg Fishman will appear at Meadowlark for the first time, presenting his Tribute to Stan Getz. Greg has toured with many of the greatest names in jazz including Woody Herman, Louie Bellson, Slide Hampton, Clark Terry, Benny Golson, and many more. He has a particular fondness for his mentor, the legendary Stan Getz, and is considered an expert on his music having published three books of his solo transcriptions. A renown jazz pedagogue having authored over a dozen books, Greg will give a jazz saxophone workshop while he is in Lincoln and perform an evening of the music of Stan Getz across his illustrious career.
In November, 2024, Meadowlark presented a free concert featuring acclaimed jazz composer and pianist, Amina Figarova, in collaboration with the internationally renowned Matsiko World Orphan Choir. They gave an exceptional performance of music that has thrilled audiences across the United States in over 40 performances from New Orleans to Buffalo and Nashville to Chicago. Her sextet and the choir came together in March of 2024 to create a recording entitled Suite for Africa, and toured across the US from April through November.
Meadowlark was thrilled to be able to present this special concert as one of the last stops on their 2024 tour before the choir returns to Libera, Africa.
The 18 albums Amina Figarova released to date have made her one of the most admired composers in jazz. … The voices (of the Matsiko World Orphan Choir) are neither sweet nor soothing, they are clamorous and jubilant …. It sounds like love becomes music.

"The crowd stood and cheered at concert’s end as the sunset cast warm glows through the stained-glass windows
of St. Paul church. It was a grand conclusion for one of the best Meadowlark festivals in recent years." Lincoln Journal Star
